Dang Nguyen

I am a Computer Science PhD student in the Chicago Human+AI Lab at the University of Chicago advised by Chenhao Tan. I also work with Ari Holtzman as part of a wider Communication & Intelligence initiative to study communication in the age of talking machines.

I am interested in the following research topics:

  • Alignment: understanding the behavior and values of LLMs and how to align them with human values.
  • LLM communication: improving LLMs’ ability to communicate and act in high-stakes settings.
  • LLM creativity: improving LLMs’ ability to create novel content, ideas, and ways of acting.
  • Human-centered AI: understanding human-AI interaction and how to design AI that improves humanity.

Outside of research, you can find me training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or lifting weights. If you think we can have a good conversation, feel free to reach out.
